Sister Cities Student Art Showcase (Fall 2015)
Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Kumasi, Ghana are sister cities participating in the Sister Cities International program. Grow Foundation For Ghana has partnered with Sister Cities Winston-Salem to provide art for an upcoming student art showcase. GFFG Advisory Committee member Benjamin Offei – Nyako (BON) solicited student art from three Kumasi schools. Students submitted artwork based on the theme “Connecting Communities for Peace and Prosperity.” Examples of student work appear below:










College of Integrative Medical Sciences (CIMS)
History / Background
- Founded by Dr. Okyerema Kwaakye (aka Dr. Addae) in 2007
- Classes began in 2009
- First graduating class in 2014



Current Situation
- 50 students enrolled
- General Medicine program offered – midwifery, nursing assistant, physician assistant
Direction of Organization
- Seeking accreditation
- Offer other training / degrees – massage therapy, EMT, nutrition



Needs

Living Waters Hospital
History / Background
- Opened 2013
- Located in Kumasi on main road between Kumasi & Accra
- Dr. Gabriel Sakyi Kwofie current president

Current Situation
- 110 inpatient beds
- Outreach services (screenings, Health education)

- Emergency department upgrade
- Dentistry, dialysis, IVF, orthopedics, school

Reform Health Clinic
GFFG received a donation of medical equipment from United Medical Response, a Georgia-based organization. GFFG is working with Sister Cities Winston-Salem to coordinate delivery of the items to Ghana (ongoing 2015).

- Holistic treatment medical practice
- Run by Francis Yeboah, CIMS physician assistant graduate; herbal doctor
Current Situation
- Outsourced laboratory work
- Also includes diagnosis and pharmaceutical dispensing



Direction of Organization
- +350 visits per month by end of year 2
- Group / community classes on hypertension, diabetes, nutrition
Needs
- Laboratory equipment
- Chiropractic, message therapy, hydrotherapy volunteers
Okyerekrom Junior High School Completion
History / Background
- Established 1997
- Serves three communities with total population of 5,000 residents



Current Situation
- Has 14 teachers and 160 students
- Two story building started in 2004 has yet to be completed
- School occupies 12 acres of land


Direction of Organization
- Plans to complete school in 4 stage project
- Stage 4 is to add Senior High School to serve 10 communities





Needs
- To complete structure of school and related supplies
- To establish computer lab with internet connection
- To begin establishment of Senior High
